Celebrating Earth Day – Part Two

Earth Day is the largest civic observance in the world and has helped bring about a ton of positive changes and impacts on the world. If you did not catch part one of our blog about Earth Day, be sure to go back and read it! We discuss the history of Earth Day and what this day of celebration has helped us accomplish over the years. Once you understand Earth Day a little more, you will be able to truly enjoy this day and how to properly celebrate it.

At TeaZen®, we work hard to spread the word about important days like these in hopes that we can have a small but positive impact on the world around us. Earth Day is one of those days that should receive special attention and has already helped make a positive impact across the entire globe.

Celebrating Earth Day is simple. You don’t have to do anything extravagant to make a small but positive difference in the world around you. In this blog, we are going to give you some ideas on how to celebrate Earth Day. Read on to learn more and start spreading the word about Earth Day so that we can get even more people to join in on the activities and celebration!

Say No to Single-Use Products

Single-use plastics and other items are one of the biggest problems our planet currently faces, and there really is no need for it. While it can be more convenient, there are so many great options out there that allow you to cut out single-use products drastically, if not completely. We aren’t asking you to change your lifestyle completely (unless you are now completely committed, then go for it!) but making small and simple changes can really make a difference, especially if a majority of the population does this.

If you drink multiple single-use plastic water bottles a day, simply go to the store and purchase a reusable bottle! Not only is it handy and great to bring just about anywhere, but you will be able to cut back on your plastic consumption drastically. You can also stock up on some reusable bags to bring to the grocery store, bring silverware and a water cup to work that you can reuse daily, and stop using straws. All of these things are super simple to do and can make a huge difference.

Use Other Forms of Transportation

Driving is a major part of all of our lives. Think about the last time you spent an entire day without driving? It is rare that you don’t use your vehicle at least once a day. From driving to work to making a quick trip to the grocery store to driving to your favorite spot with friends, we are constantly in our vehicles. Cutting back on your driving time is another simple way to celebrate Earth Day and help the environment. While you should attempt to use your car less on a regular basis, we know it can be hard to do from time to time, but you should make a special attempt on Earth Day.

If possible, ride your bike or walk to work. Walk your kids to school. Bike to the grocery store to pick up those few items you need. Instead of driving to the gym, go for a run outside around your neighborhood. Even taking public transportation can help because if multiple people do this, there will be that many fewer cars on the road. While this is a great way to be healthier and more active throughout the year, we hope that you choose to do this on Earth Day.

Recycling is one huge thing that we could all be better at. While you may think that you are not going to make that much of a difference by recycling, a Do You Yoga article made a great point. They stated “As Voltaire says, “no snowflake in an avalanche ever feels responsible,” yet where would the avalanche be without each snowflake?”

Each time you recycle, you are making a small contribution that can have a powerful impact. There are many different places around town that do not recycle, many cities do not have recycling bins as accessible as trash cans, and some people just don’t see the point. Whether you simply learn more about recycling and start doing it yourself or you take it a step further and try to implement recycling in your town or place of work, use this Earth Day to make this simple but mighty change.

Plant a Tree

If you have been looking for ways to improve your landscaping, plant a tree! While it may not seem like something that will do a lot, trees are so important to this planet! Even planting a single tree can help to improve our environment.

You could even try to organize a tree planting project with your city and get a group together to plant trees all around town. This will help add beauty, while also making a positive impact on the environment.

Make Home Improvements

There are so many home improvement projects you can do that can help reduce your negative impact on the environment. You can start simple by switching your light bulbs to a more energy efficient option. There are a huge variety of light bulbs out there, which means finding one that is more eco-friendly is simple! This can also help you save on your energy bill every month!

You can also make sure there are no leaks in your home. Leaks can waste an excessive amount of water each year, which is not eco-friendly and can cost you a ton of money on your water bill. When you fix leaks in your home, you will be helping the environment and saving on your water bill!

There are so many other improvements you can make in your home that will help the environment and save you money. From switching to Energy Star appliances to weatherproofing your windows and doors.

Join a Project

During Earth Day, there are a huge variety of activities, projects, and other events going on that you can join! These are all focused around helping make a small difference and do something to positively impact the environment. Whether you start your own group or join someone else’s, you will be able to help celebrate Earth Day with people who have a similar love for the planet. This is a great way to meet new people while also helping make a difference in your community and the world as a whole.

These are just a few ideas that you can use to get started on your Earth Day celebrations. There are so many different things you can do to celebrate, including going vegetarian for a day, planting a garden, shopping local, and spreading the word about Earth Day. If you have other fun ideas on how you are planning to celebrate, let us know! We would love to hear what you are doing to make a positive impact on the environment.
